About
Our Story:
Kosma’s Garden of Angeles was founded in 2019 by my mother, Iwona Bakier, in loving memory of her son and my brother, Kosma.
In 2016, Kosma was killed in a motorcycle accident shortly after his 30th birthday. My mother and I were left in deep pain and overwhelming sadness. At the time of his death, he was living in Toronto, Canada, although his few years spent in Los Angeles he described as some of his most memorable.
Often described as an old soul, Kosma was wise beyond his years. He was intelligent, opinionated and stubborn. To his family and friends, he was playful, silly and vulnerable. He loved watching old war movies, riding his motorcycle, and snuggling his dog. No one brought out his soft side more than his number one girl, his Rottweiler-Pitbull Cross named Ava – which he adopted from the Toronto Humane Society.
In an attempt to channel our grief into something positive and honor Kosma’s name, my mother and I started this rescue. As a family of animal lovers, working with them and channeling our energy into rescue was a no brainer.
Our Vision:
Kosma’s Garden of Angeles is a non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary located in Los Angeles, California. Our mission is to remove animals from abusive or neglectful situations, rehabilitate and rehome them in order for them to find their forever home and live their best life.
Not including our own variety of household pets (past and present), our rescue has removed and rehomed 20+ dogs from kill shelters in Los Angeles this year alone. Although we work primarily with dogs, we recently have expanded our vision of a rescue to add a sanctuary for some of our more difficult cases (sick, old or unadoptable animals).
Although we have made great strides in the short time we have been operating, it is no easy task and the job is far from over.
My mother, our volunteers and I all have full time jobs and operate the rescue during our spare time. We rely entirely on public donations. These donations allow us to remove the animals from their current situations, house and feed them, provide them with medical attention and so on.
If you would like to help support our cause, please donate today and help us continue our mission.
Thank you,
Kora & Iwona Bakier.
In loving memory of Kosma Bakier-Poniewierski (March 18, 1986 – April 17, 2016).
